Biography

Dr. Walter Eevers has been appointed to the position of Director Research & Development since July 1st, 2016, for VITO, the Flemish/Belgian premium Research Institute on Sustainability.

Walter Eevers (1966) joined Nitto Europe after receiving his PhD on electrical conductive Polymers from Antwerp University (1993). He was responsible for R&D, and business development, until he became General Manager Techno-Marketing and started working internationally within the Nitto Group. He got involved in global technology sourcing and marketing, by setting up multiple collaborations with universities and research institutes; In the course of this period he obtained Master degree in business administration from Hasselt University (2001). In 2012 he was the founding father of the company Nitto Denko Europe Technical Centre in Lausanne dedicated to research activities in medical devices.

Since September 2013, he has been appointed to the position of Director Valorisation & Strategic Partnerships for VITO. As from July 2016 he has taken on the role of Director Research and Development .

Furthermore, Walter acts also as an external Expert and Vice Chair for the EU Commission; Conacyt (Mexico) and Qatar Foundation on innovation programs and projects. Furthermore he is active as a board member in CO2 Value Europe and the chairman of the Management Committee of EnergyVille, the collaboration between the Catholic University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven), University of Hasselt, IMEC and VITO in the domain of sustainable Energy research.

In the course as responsible director for valorisation he has been at the origin of several spin offs of VITO and held board positions in them, complemented with some additional advisory functions in start ups.

As a visiting professor at UAntwerpen in the domain of Polymerchemistry. he is active in education and guidance of students.
