Biography

Mr Vijay Kumar Thallam, is at present Advisor, Agriculture, to the Government of Andhra Pradesh in India and Co-Vice Chairman of Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (a company for Farmers empowerment, set up by the State Government).

Mr Thallam earned his academic B.Sc, degree in Physics in 1975 and Masters in Business Administration in 1977.

In his professional career out of the 33 years in governmental service, 28 years were dedicated to Tribal development, Rural development, and Agriculture.

As the most significant assignment Mr Thallam was leading a state wide programme of poverty eradication through empowerment of rural poor women. The programme had organized 11,5 million rural poor women in thrift and credit based self-help groups (SHGs), and their federations in 10 years’time.

At present, Mr Thallam is leading the implementation of climate resilient Zero budget Natural farming in the entire state of A.P. The ZBNF program in the first phase has an outlay of $175 million and will cover, 500.000 farmers in 3000 villages. The vision of the State Government is to universalize this programme to cover all 6 million farmers of the State by 2024.
