Biography

Ambassador Mohammad Hossein Emadi is the permanent Representative of Islamic Republic of Iran to UN Agricultural and food Agencies in Rome. He has been active in the field of agriculture and rural development since 1980 and his academic career focuses mainly on sustainable agriculture before and after he obtained his PhD in “Systems Agriculture” from Australia in 1995. He, as an academic specialist who served in research centres and universities as lecturer, researcher as well as research manager, was then engaged with public work as Deputy Minister of Agriculture for eight years since1996. During that period he established new systems of national Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (AKIS) and introduced “agroecological approaches” by introducing IPM, Organic farming, and FFS with active participation of NGOs, local communities and farmers. In 2004 he achieved “APO Award” for his innovative and productive management services by Asian Productivity Organization (Japan). Since 2005, he started working with international communities in Afghanistan on post conflict situation as the Senior Policy Advisor to Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Agriculture until 2012. He conducted several national plans for change in both ministries and established “Afghanistan Institute of Rural Development” (AIRD) to conduct research and training courses. Since 2013 he started working in China with emphasis on role of innovation in agricultural development. Dr. Emadi has so far published 11 books, 48 papers and articles on sustainable systemic approaches of agricultural development.
